cake smash

One Year Session - First Birthday Photoshoot - MA BABY PHOTOGRAPHER - Cake Smash Session - Dandelion Wild Photography

Ummm…I’m sorry but is he not the cutest baby you have ever seen in your entire life?

He has a personality to match too. He just smiles and smiles and smiles and I swear he’s going to be one of those sweet talkers when he’s older. I mean that boy is going to get away with everything. I mean come on…how does a mom say no to that sweet little mug.

I was lucky enough to capture Alex a few days after he was born. He was so cute then, but I had no idea he’d be THIS cute now. Mom pulled him out of the car and I nearly lost it. I love a good head of curls and baby blue eyes. Heck…I swoon over all babies. Every baby has something special about them and I’m not going to let parents go home without knowing what that is. Baby fever is not a sickness. It’s a disease people. A DISEASE! Once you have it, it NEVER EVER goes away. If you say you don’t want anymore kids…HA! I bet if I put one in your arms and told you he was yours you’d look at me all doe eyed with your bottom lip trembling and turn on your heels and run.

I love babies. There is just something about them. Unfortunately, I’ve passed my love for babies onto both my daughters. They’re like me only 10x worse. My youngest would go up to strangers and try taking their baby out of the little carrier without permission. She’s pretty stealthy and I’ve let her get as close to getting the chest clip and one buckle undone and then I’m running over to divert the situation. I don’t take my eyes off my children, you shouldn’t either. Take it as a lesson to you and be grateful she didn’t steal your baby. Because if she made it back to me we wouldn’t give him back! Well…at least until it’s time to go home and then we kindly return him because well…kidnapping is quite illegal…and I’m not about to go to jail simply because there are no babies there.

My oldest gets a baby in her arms and if you go anywhere near her she’ll let you know exactly how she feels about it. My shy little girl will negotiate her way into one more hour of baby snuggles while you wait babyless near by wondering what just happened. They are the two biggest baby hogs of them all. Get all three of us in the room and we play pass the baby until it’s time to go home. I don’t even care if they poop. I’ll change them. I have no problems with puke either. I mean obviously the most precious things in this world are going to do the two most disgusting things in this world, because well…nothing in this world comes easy and why should babies.

Look at this baby. Just look at him! Even his eyes smile.

First Birthday Cake Smash - Central Massachusetts Family Photographer - Amelia - Funfetti Themed Smash Cake

How has it been a year since this little girl has been born!? This passed year has flown by. August 2017 marks 18 months in business. One and a half years! :)

These girls belong to my college roommate. It still blows my mind how life develops over the years. Most of my favorite college memories include these girls' mumma and most are surely unforgettable!

Amelia is a sweet little babe who brought her big sister McKenzie and her mum and dad in with her to see me. Her big sister is one of my favorite people on this earth. She is a little miracle who is vivacious, fun, adorable, and hilarious! I could seriously hang out with her all day and laugh and laugh with her as she just dances through life.

Amelia has grown so much. Her personality really shined which was special because I haven't seen her in about six months! She was so sweet and quiet and just took in her surroundings and went with the flow. She is the perfect little sister to Kenzie for sure. They compliment each other so well.

Amelia is technically a rainbow baby which made her smash session suit her perfectly. Her big sister Morghan is watching over her sisters everyday. McKenzie and Morghan are twin sisters whom were born at 24 weeks gestation at 1lb 2oz and 1lb 7oz. Unfortunately, due to the high stress and risks that are placed on the shoulders of these fragile miracle babies, Morghan passed away. Kenzie, even being the smaller of the two, thrived and is now a vibrant little chickita we know and love today.

These girls hold a special place in my heart...the whole family. I wish we lived closer so I could see them much more often than I do!

Happy First Birthday, Amelia! <3

I snapped this one real quick while she loved up on her little man.

I snapped this one real quick while she loved up on her little man.

Mom and I started working together after she came back from maternity leave this passed school year.  She is a work horse and is one of the kindest people I know.  She is a soft spoken mom and is so patient and sweet.  I loved seeing her in this role as a mother.  <3

Turning one year is so bittersweet. Your little babe is slowly growing up into a toddler. Losing those chubby baby cheeks and leg and arm rolls slowly disappearing as your baby grows longer.  There's so much to look forward to as your baby grows.  But for some reason, us mom's can't help but long for those days where our little ones were just 10 pounds of pure baby with arms and legs they can't control, big eyes that look all around, and that smell that permeates from their hair...ugh take me back!

This one year old babe was so sweet! He has those eyes that smile when he does. <3 Smiling eyes are my favorite.

Mom chose a watermelon theme for his cake smash and it was so cute! He loved his backdrop so much he wanted to try a taste! <3

At the end of his session, we washed him up in the tub and took a few photos while he splashed. <3 Such a cutie!

Happy Birthday, little man! <3

Dandelion Wild Photography - One Year Cake Smash - Central Massachusetts Photographer - You Are My Sunshine Theme Cake Smash

So this was the cutest cake smash ever! This You Are My Sunshine theme really pulled at my heart strings.  That song is a song my Grandmother would always sing to me. I was always her Sunshine to her.  She would hold me close when I was sad...or even just because...and sing in a deep voice so I could feel the vibrations of her voice. It was the most soothing thing and it's something I always remember.

When I met little Kinsley, it was very clear to me why they chose this theme.  Not only could she replace the sun baby on Teletubbies (We literally just got Nick Jr. three days ago...and I can not believe Teletubbies is back...really?!) but Kins literally came over and once she was inside it rained.  I'm not even joking.  Ok...it rained throughout most of the day....but I think she might just possibly have some control over the sun. ;)

Mom and Dad just adore this little queen bee. She is the absolute sunshine in their life. I feel like there is something extra special about her though.  I couldn't exactly pin point it...but it was the feeling in the room as I watched her parents look at her, soothe her, dance for her, sing to her, make faces at her, and love on her.  There's just something about her and it's wonderful!  This family was very kind and I felt like I've known them for years, though only moments.

Since it was a rainy day, we decided to leave out family photos and reschedule them for another day. It was all about the babe for the day. She was such a good girl and was very sweet.

She loved her cake! She definitely preferred the frosting! She made us all laugh and laugh as she played the cake like a drum.  She got a kick out of us laughing and laughed too.

She was a lot of fun and it was such a great way to spend a rainy morning. <3 What could be better than spending it photographing a happy baby girl digging into some cake??? <3

Happy Birthday! <3

One Year Cake Smash - Massachusetts Photographer - Dandelion Wild Photography - Monster Cake Smash

This gorgeous family came to see me this morning! They brought me a birthday boy who was the HAPPIEST little guy! I mean..I'm pretty sure life is good for him.  He didn't have a single complaint...well...until we decided that was enough cake.  Let's just say...he let us know exactly how he felt about that.

Boys always get all the good stuff when it comes to genetics.  Like does he really NEEEEED those beautiful eyes? No! He's already a handsome little devil.  We all agreed he's going to break his fair share of hearts.  So can't all of us girls have the big beautiful eyes....the perfect corkscrew curls...the super long eyelashes...and all the other good stuff the boys get!!! lol <3

Oh those eyes...<3 Greyson babe, you can keep them.  They look best on you anyway! <3

So! His birthday theme was the CUTEST! And if you have been following my instagram, then you probably saw all the prep I did to get it ready! I share most things on instagram so if you haven't already get your cute little self on over there and follow me!  DandelionWild <--- Username. :)

I cut out these cute little monster guys and Amanda over at Cakes by Amanda made him this adorable monster cake! If I hadn't had Amanda's cake before...then I'd almost say that it was almost too good looking to eat....BUT...You can't not eat Amanda's cakes no matter how cute they are. <3 Just ask Greyson.

Cake Smashes are one of my favorite sessions to photograph.  Afterwards, I like to think that babies leave here thinking that this was the best day of their life. <3

One Year Old Cake Smash Session - Ladybug Theme

I love meeting new people!  I just love people and families and how uniquely dynamic they all are.  This family was so kind and super fun!  They were willing to do just about anything to get their little peanut to smile and laugh!  And what a happy and content baby she was!  She just went with the flow and really rocked her session.

We started off with some family photos. My favorite photos are natural and organic ones.  When a family just hangs out and loves on each other.  What better way to capture a family then in their element; together and madly in love.

Once we finished capturing some perfect moments outside, we moved it on inside to change her outfit and take a few more.  These are my favorite.  I just love creamy neutrals.

She's just absolutely stunning. After quick snack, I started setting up for her cake smash!  Her smash was a ladybug theme and it was probably my most challenging to imagine when I was designing her backdrop.  I didn't want to take away from her, knowing she'd be all decked out in her ladybug tutu.  So, I found a little inspiration in a box I have that has sunflowers and ladybugs.  This was the outcome...

As always, Amanda at Cakes by Amanda in Barre, MA did a fantastic job on the smash cake.

Now, this little sweetie has a sweet tooth or two.  She loved her cake.  She didn't exactly destroy it...but she did enjoy it! <3

She was perfect! I could have photographed her all day long. <3 Such a cutie

Six Year Old Photo Session - Spring Session - Wildflowers - Worcester, Massachusetts Area Photographer

Six was tough on me.  It feels the same as when your newborn baby turns one month old and you notice they forgot how to curl up like they did in the womb.  Their feet no longer curve to their body.  Their legs are stretched out as far as they can go... growing...growing...growing... and not stopping anytime soon.  It was as hard as the day you noticed the bubbles on their toes are gone from months of walking.  It was as hard as the first time she was left with her grandparents...wondering if she thought we abandoned her. It was that hard.

Well, it happened.  She's six now. There's no turning back. I remember sitting in the hospital bed.  My family and closest friends surrounding us.  My husband leaning over me and gazing down at her.  I lost it when he whispered to her "Thanks for making me Dad."  She was such a beautiful newborn.  She had the biggest green eyes that were so alert and so curious.  She found her thumb and nursed it. Since that day she has taken on the world by storm.

You know that expression, "She lights up the room."  well, she really does.  Everywhere we go someone is excited to see her!  She's a good friend with a beautiful soul. She cares about all lives. She is cautious but brave.  She is adventurous but sticks close to home.  She's shy but opens up quickly and has a lot to say.  She's reluctant to try new things, but tends to be good at most things.  And when she's not, she gives it her all.  She may shed a tear or two but she works hard and celebrates her accomplishments.

She loves a good adventure.  Hiking is her favorite past-time.  She wishes it was a sport you play at school.  It's pretty cool to watch your child who looks just like her Daddy morph into a little you when it comes to personality.  I'm so thankful her passions mirror mine.  I can relate to her and build a strong relationship that way.

She has written books.  So many books.  Beautiful books with story lines and characters with feelings and traits.  She's an amazing reader with the thirst to collect as many books and read as many books as she can.  She doesn't care if it's beyond her level.  She'll try it.  Fearless.

There are so many things I love about her.  Like the noise she makes when she's mad.  It's a cross between a happy goose and an angry mother hen.  It's a quick noise that makes us laugh and turns her mood around.

I'm proud of our girl. I pinch myself often wondering if I'm in a dream.  Nope. This is real life.

All of us as parents are madly in love with beautiful beings, whom we made or were given.  We get to take care of them and bless them with all of what life has to offer and watch them grow and experience amazing things.  We are so lucky, aren't we?

One Year Cake Smash - Mickey Mouse Theme

So, Joshua is a very special boy to me.  <3 I have been photographing him since he was born!  Before he was even thought of, I photographed his big brother since he was just three years old and his big sister was just a teeny tiny little baby!

Believe it or not, he's actually one of the reasons I started this business!  Not only was he one of the last sessions I had at the studio I previously worked at, but he was also one of the first I photographed under my new business during my first month after launching!

His mum had contacted me and had asked if I'd still take pictures for her even though I no longer was working in the field.  I never expected for clients to reach out to me.  Although, after Josh's mom did, I understood since I've been working with them for so long.

Of course I couldn't say no!  I didn't want to miss out on photographing one of my favorite clients on such a special day.  Clients, of course, quickly become friends when you get the opportunity to celebrate their children and every milestone they reach.  I love getting the chance to watch them become beautiful little people...<3.  I undeniably grow very attached.

I kept getting messages like this again and again from clients who noticed I was no longer affiliated.  It was a tad overwhelming at the time because I had hit a low point that I was trying to get out of.  It was so uplifting to read kind words and have clients search for me to make sure everything was ok.  It really validated how special this job was and how not only did I care about them, but they care about me as well.  It didn't take me long to realize, that photography makes me happy.  I in no way do this for the money.  I do it for myself to nurse my creative side.  I love creating beautiful images of beautiful people and sharing them with others who might enjoy it too.  I follow other artists who I idolize and whom also inspire me.

So I sat my husband down one day and I had a serious conversation about it.  It didn't take much convincing.  He believes in me more than anyone else and we decided that it was a good idea to pursue this new dream. <3In his own words, "Whatever makes you happy."

Josh will never know the huge role he had played in where I am today.  (Although, his mom might share the story about the time he took a digger after his Christmas photos which resulted in an egg on his sweet little head.) <3At least it was after his session and we even NAILED a photo with all three kids smiling so perfectly! <3

So, Josh came to visit me to celebrate his first birthday.  He wasn't as happy to see me as I was to see him though.  He was not feeling his best and took his cake smash very seriously.  But he was by far one of the cutest little grumpy boys ever. <3
