Spring Mini Sessions

SPRING MINIS 2018.jpg

Ya... I couldn't wait anymore so I decided to just throw it out there.

Spring Minis are now being booked! This is a great time to get your family photo updated! You can coordinate outfits to the spring wildflowers which is way more flexible than fall or winter time outfit selections. The weather will be bearable and the days will start to grow longer. This is my preferred time to get my own family photos done because it's so lush and green, the dandelions are plentiful, and everyone is on a high from all the vitamin D they've been lacking all winter. The weather is slightly unpredictable but this also allows you to be more relaxed when it comes to outfit styles. Whether you prefer sundresses or sweaters, whatever your taste, the weather should be bearable just long enough for any style. I love the colors of fall, don't get me wrong, but with my family photos I want my eye to be drawn to the subjects, my family, and only my family and not the environment around them.

What to Expect:

Sessions will be held throughout the month of May.

Discount only applies to mini sessions scheduled during the month of May.

Sessions will take place one hour and a half before sunset.

Sessions will be limited to one family per evening. I do not have every single evening available so of course...sessions will be limited.

The session time can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the family. Here's what I mean by this: Every family is different....duh. But in all seriousness...let's throw it all out there and take my family and my friend's family as examples.

My husband is very social and personable. I'm not. I'm just not. I'm shy, I'm introverted, and I internalize everything that's going on around me. While I'm doing that...I don't contribute to conversations much because I'm analyzing and thinking about everything everyone is saying so by the time I even come up with something to say...the conversation has moved on to something else. I also have sensory processing issues which makes me over sensitive to touch. (I'm not being over dramatic. I'm very in touch with myself because as an introvert, I spend a lot of time at home...thinking...and then over thinking...and in between all that thinking, I legit figured myself out and how to deal with it all.) Why did I just share this with all of you? Because about two weeks before our family photo session...I legit, day to day, gradually start to panic. I lose sleep. I stay home a lot more because the thought of this session is so draining I don't have enough energy to do much else until the damn thing is OVER! So, one of my girls is like my husband, the other is just. like. me. We would DEFINITELY need an entire hour, if not more, just because half of us are awkward and dying inside as well as over stimulated and the other half is way too happy to just be alive! Imagine that hot mess. Yep. My family photographer is legit the best and her images are the only other ones that are allowed to bless my walls. Just saying. <3 As a photographer...I take all the photos in the house. My husband doesn't have any social media accounts so he's NEVER on his phone so the last thought he has is to take his out and take photos. I love him for that..but I want my kids to see us as we were all their lives. I want them to have albums and albums on top of albums to share with their kids, their grandkids, and great grandkids. I want them to tell stories and share places to visit so that they can go there too and make memories to document.

I could go on and on.

So...I get it. I totally get it. There are people out there that are totally as neurotic as we are so my little feels go out to those who happen to be blessed with such a....talent? lol

My girlfriend and her family, on the other hand, they are so put together. They look like they stepped out of a magazine. Their family has a deep emotional connection that is visible in their body language. (All families have an emotional connection...but not all express that so easily or so organically as they do...all the time. And that's ok!) Her children are just so laid back and go with the flow that sessions just come natural to them. They legit could stand there in a field and simply interact with each other and have an entire session documented in 30 minutes flat. That's not us. That's not most of us. And that's also totally ok.

There are so many combinations of family. It's hard to just limit every individual family to just black and white. Especially when we live in a world full of color.

Our time is valuable. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be thinking about investing in photos. Time capsules. Little pixels that freeze your most important people in your life...for eternity. You wouldn't be working so hard so that you could have the extra time and funds to ensure that it happens. I get that. And I value that too.

I want you and your family to have the best experience possible and I want your session to be how you envisioned it would be but better.

It's ok if your family is the way it is. That's exactly what we want to capture. So bring them to me. Bring it all to me! All the laughs, the fears, the love, and maybe even some tears. Just bring it all with you when you come. Your images aren't going to be everyone sitting perfectly posed and smiling. They're just not. I always get a few for families...but it's all about documenting those little wrist rolls before they disappear. That wild sun kissed blond hair in the middle of summer, before it fades to brown. How your boy was once much smaller than you and looked up to you adoringly...you know...all those delightful little things you never want to forget.

Your session will include 10 digital images with the opportunity to purchase more. Your images will be delivered to you through an online gallery. Your gallery will have a unique link and password which you can share with friends and family. It will also come with a 10% discount code, good for two weeks, to purchase professional grade prints and products through that gallery. This code can also be shared with friends and family who might want to make a purchase, especially those who might live farther away. Items will be shipped straight to them!

Sessions are held at various locations throughout central MA and suggestions are always considered.

Feel free to reach out if you would like to book yours this May.

Questions will be answered and more information will be provided.

Mother's Day Mini Sessions

Mother's Day Mini Sessions will soon be in full swing! This year, Mother's Day Minis are all about family. That's what mom's love most right? So, these sessions are not limited to moms and their children; it's for mommas who want an updated family photo, a few of just her kids, a few of herself with her kids, and maybe a few of herself with the man that helped her start it all! Or maybe helped her rebuild it all, whatever dynamic your family may bring. Even bring old Fido along for the fun! Everyone knows I love my furbabies!

Whatever it is that momma wants, momma is getting! (In regards to her Mother's Day family photos anyway!) :)

Mother's Day is so special. We work so hard to make sure everyone and everything is taken care of, we deserve at least one day to be recognized for that. <3 My girls are so sweet, they want nothing more than for me to be happy at every waking second of every single day. I don't know about you, but that's just not possible for me. I'm not the happiest person when I get up in the morning...so my girls kindly wake me up with big smiles and shower me with lots of hugs and kisses before they ask me to make them breakfast...immediately...before their stomachs eat themselves.

On Mother's Day...it's like that times infinity. They want to be a part of everything that day. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed. They attempt to make me breakfast, draw me beautiful pictures, pass me sweet notes, try to help me around the house, etc. Tremendous effort is evident. These girls are my world and on Mother's Day, they remind me that I'm theirs too.

These times are so fleeting. I wish they would just slow down. But they won't. And there's nothing we can do to even make a dent in the speed in which time travels.

The closest we can get to freezing time...is allowing someone to take that photo. <3

Allow me. <3

Finding the Perfect Photographer for You!

There are many different kinds of photographers out there! There is a huge spectrum when it comes to experience, price, quality, image quantity, product offerings, etc. It can be overwhelming when it comes down to deciding who to hire when it finally comes down to it. Don't just settle for someone local! There are so many photographers in the industry and there are ones that are definitely worth a little extra drive!

I'm going to give you a few tips that I had found helpful when it came down to hiring a photographer! I hired a photographer to capture my family not too long ago. (The session is for the spring time, so it hasn't happened quite yet, but it's booked!) It was easy to find the perfect photographer for me after I knew exactly what it was that I was looking for!

Do your research!

Each photographer is unique! No two are the same! There are some truly incredible photographers out there! Some have been in the industry for years! Others are just starting out! With anything, there are businesses that are run legitimately while others are run as a hobby. Some work full time, while others work part time and may even have another job. Some struggle to be creative and may copy other photographers' work as well as copy website information. Fortunately, it's not too often you find a photographer that has the gall to steal and copy others! It's one thing to be inspired by another photographer, but to take their work and claim it as their own is just not ok. I try to avoid that kind at all costs. I'm looking for a service that is high quality since I'm investing my hard earned money into something I highly value! I don't want a watered down version, I want the real thing! How can I trust someone with my money that publicly does things like that to another photographer's business? I also don't want the same setup as everyone else. I want something special and unique designed specifically to my family. So, when shopping around for photographers, I made sure to find someone who was creative, natural, interested in getting to know me and my family, someone who has a little something special to offer, and someone who valued me as a person and not just a client with money to spend! These factors might not be things you value in your session, and that's ok! Once you figure out what it is that is important to you, then you will be able to start the search to find the perfect photographer for you and your family!

What is it that you want out of your session?

This question encompasses a lot of concepts when it comes down to the details. Do you want an indoor session with bright backdrops, wood backdrops, neutral backdrops? Or an outdoor session in a field, in the city, in the woods, at your home, on the water, on a mountain, during sunset, during a specific season, etc. Depending on the season, and the photographer, you may have to book well in advance which is another thing to consider. Did you want a combination of indoor and outdoor? Does the photographer you have your eye on have the space to accommodate both? Do you like posed smiley family photos or do you prefer less posed and more organic photos? Were you interested in a lifestyle session? If you aren't sure, consider asking yourself what you want to use these images for? Did you just need to update your family photo for an album? Did you just move and have walls to fill? Do you need photos for invitations or thank you cards? Christmas Cards? Did you need them for a gift you were making? Wedding decor? Etc. Think about what you want them for, then decide what style will work best for you! (If you wanted to hang your images in your living room that is decorated in shades of cream, white, and blue then you probably don't want purple floral backdrops...or maybe you do. :) If you wanted these images for first birthday invitations that match the theme you chose you might want to ask what the photographer can do for you as well as turn around time so you have plenty of time to not only get your photos, but create and order the invitations.)

Not all photographers offer all the services above. Maybe you're just looking for a few family photos to share on social media and with friends and family! So it's important to take a peek at the photographer's social media, as well as their website, in order to gauge exactly what it is that they offer. Some photographers will do everything and anything and offer a ton of different services. Others choose to specialize in one or a few areas and perfect that. Check out the props and backdrops on their page. Does this match the style that you had in mind? Would the images match the decor in your home (assuming you may want to order prints of your images to hang)? Please make sure you reach out and ask questions (no matter how silly they may seem). Maybe you saw a backdrop they used on their website that would go great with the color scheme in your living room. Ask if it's still available for use because style is always changing, they may not even have that backdrop anymore! Asking questions will help you get a good idea as to whether or not that photographer is for you! And this will also give the photographer a better idea as to what you would like and they can make sure you have the best experience with them. If you bring a Pinterest board to a photographer with a bit of a different style, I'm sure they will do their best to be inspired by that idea, but you may not be happy with the end result if it's different from what they usually offer.

Make sure you work with a photographer that has a clear contract! Read the contract over, do not hesitate to ask questions for clarification! It's important that you are valued as a client and have an agreement, as well as a CLEAR understanding as to how your money will be spent and what you will get with that money.

How much are you looking to spend?

Photography is an investment. Pricing varies greatly! Some photographers shoot primarily on location because they do not have a studio space. Some photographers rent a studio, while others have an in-home studio or separate building they own. These are all things that are calculated into the photographer's pricing. So, if you are on a budget, maybe look into a photographer who doesn't have a studio space and primarily shoots on location. This will almost always guarantee a cheaper session fee because the costs the photographer takes on to run his/her business is a little bit less than one that may rent or own a studio space. Families on an even tighter budget may want to keep an eye out for photographers who are just starting out! They are so eager to find families to practice with! Some may charge a small fee but it's generally a very reasonable one. But just remember, they still have a lot to learn. Even experienced photographers are still learning or "practicing". If you find a newer photographer offering newborn sessions, I would just ask if they have taken any workshops or classes on newborn safety or if they have experience with newborn sessions through a mentor program. Newborn safety is so very important and it takes experience to understand the fundamentals of a successful newborn session. Newer photographers are naturally going to be cheaper than more seasoned photographers. Seasoned photographers have had longer to make money that they invest back into their business so their equipment might be of higher quality. Newer photographers to the industry might have good equipment, but may have less to offer if you were looking for props, outfits, hair and makeup services, etc.

Don't shy away from that photographer that you love because of their price! Most do offer payment plans and will deliver your images, wall art, and products on receipt of final payment!

What would you like to happen after your session is over?

Do you just want digital images? Do you want to be able to choose your images or are you okay with your photographer choosing? Do you want wall art? Do you want books, albums, or other products? Do you want all of the above? Are you ok with, and have the time for, pre and post consultations when it comes to ordering prints? Some photographers offer this service which is a little time consuming, but well worth the extra attention to detail and this will most definitely give your photographer a clear idea of what it is you are looking for in your session! Once you narrow down your photographer based on price and style...see what it is they have to offer! A professional photographer who owns a business can get exclusive access to professional grade print companies. These print companies will only work with professional photographers and do not accept orders from other such customers. The quality is to die for. The ink lasts forever and never fades. The paper will never turn yellow, crinkle with age, or dull. Depending on the print company your potential photographer uses they may also offer prints on metal and wood. They may offer custom framing for your prints. Your photographer may even offer services where they will come to your home, measure the wall, and help create a collage for you! Just ask! This service is invaluable! You are guaranteed to get beautiful, flawless, work delivered right to you, ready to hang! (That is, if that is what you want!) If you are going to invest money into professionally photographing your family, then why wouldn't you invest in printing these images professionally? Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Costco, etc. are NOT professional printing companies. These are machines that do not care if the color is slightly off or if the paper is cheap. Invest in a photographer that will give you access to professional print companies! Printing photos at cheap labs is almost like buying prime rib and then cooking it in the microwave! You would NEVER do that! Professional printing companies not only print the images true to color and of high quality, they also inspect every image, fix anything that may need fixing, and GUARANTEE 100% satisfaction. However, some photographers only offer digitals which might be something that you're looking for right now. So, if quality prints is something you want with your session, it is something to ask about prior to booking!

Are you looking for a long term photographer?

Here's my buddy Landon during his newborn session, Cake Smash session, and his little brother's newborn session! <3 Love this family! They are always willing to model! Thank goodness because they are pretty good looking people! <3 This family has been with me since the very beginning!

One thing that was important to me was finding a photographer my kids liked and someone I can use again and again. With young children, this is essential! You want your little one to feel comfortable with your photographer. You want them to see a familiar face to ease the stress of a session. This consistency will only make the sessions you invest in more successful if your children feel safe and are with familiar people. I really wanted someone who limits the number of sessions they take on each month because then I know that photographer cares about the quality of work they put out rather than the quantity. A photographer that posts a zillion sessions a month on their wall with a limited staff makes me a little nervous. It takes a while to hand edit each individual photo in a session. Some photos get more attention than others. If the photographer has a short turnaround time but a huge clientele, this just suggests to me that they only care about the quantity of the work they produce, not the quality. The only drawback to this is that you may have to spend a little extra for this kind of service. But it's well worth it in the end! I know I will feel as though I spent my money wisely and got what I paid for. :) Obviously this isn't true for all photographers as some know how to get the job done in a timely manner. But just check out the quality of the work and I think that speaks for itself!

How do I find a photographer?

Ask around! Did a friend of yours recently have a session? Ask them about it! Google is also a great tool! Search Instagram for specific Hashtags. (For example: #CentralMAPhotographer or #BostonPhotographer #WorcesterPhotographer - Photographers do their best to hashtag their posts to best advertise their business.) Maybe you know of a few photographers already but just haven't had a chance to check them out! Read reviews! Reviews are a great way to figure out the type of people you are working with! Skim through a few and read about their experience(s)!

I hope this helps you when it comes to deciding who you would like to invest in! I'm looking for clients who are a perfect match for me! Do you think we might be a perfect match??? I want you to find the perfect person for you, even if I happen to not be it for whatever reason that may be! 100% Satisfied Customers = One Happy Photographer!

Check out my website and social media outlets, and if my style appeals to you, send me an email and let's get talking about what it is you want out of your session! <3

Christmas Tree Farm Mini Session - Massachusetts Photographer - Family Photography MA - Holiday

Often times I get requests to show more of a certain session. I don't like to share too many images from a session because I want it to be a surprise for the family receiving them. Often times, I'm too busy to go back to a session to post more. But since I have a little extra time on my hands, here's a little more from one of the Christmas Tree Farm sessions I offered this year.

I can't even tell you how many times these kids told each other and their parents that they loved them, because I lost count. They were oh so sweet and very well behaved. We ran through the Christmas Tree Farm on that chilly afternoon. Up and down the rows of trees. It was beautiful and this family just added the warmth.

That little peanut in the middle came earlier this year to celebrate her first birthday! I can't believe how big she has gotten. She is so lucky to have such loving big brothers!

I gotta share last year's Christmas photo with this years...

She is certainly one very loved little girl. And big brother sure has a very determined way of showing his love for her. <3

And one more of the gorgeous Pollard family. Love this crew!

Central Massachusetts Newborn Photographer - Newborn Girl - Harper

This gorgeous family came in to see me with their brand new baby girl to show off. She was a little older than most newborns I photograph but she did so well throughout her session. My favorite part of newborn sessions with first time parents is talking about their baby. They are literally coming in to see me one week or maybe two or even three weeks into being parents, and they talk as though they're experts. And they really already are!

Every baby is so very different and I feel like there is no advice I can give to new parents, because each baby is so unique. They are the experts on their child. They know the hungry cry. They know she likes to be swaddled with one arm out. They know she prefers her side to her back, etc.

Harper has the cutest face when she's complaining...lol <3

Harper has the cutest face when she's complaining...lol <3

First time parents are so beautiful. They never take their eyes off their baby. They are so careful and just absolutely head over heals in love with this little tiny human they made so beautifully. Babies are such a miracle and to be blessed with one in any way is such a gift.

My best friend just had a baby about a month ago. That feeling never gets old. Watching someone you love become a mother or a father. <3 You see this new light in their eye as they gaze upon their littlest love.

I get to witness this when I photograph these brand new babes. It's such a phenomenal feeling to witness love at it's finest and most beautiful point in life.

One Year Old Cake Smash Session - Ladybug Theme

I love meeting new people! I just love people and families and how uniquely dynamic they all are. This family was so kind and super fun! They were willing to do just about anything to get their little peanut to smile and laugh! And what a happy and content baby she was! She just went with the flow and really rocked her session.

We started off with some family photos. My favorite photos are natural and organic ones. When a family just hangs out and loves on each other. What better way to capture a family then in their element; together and madly in love.

Once we finished capturing some perfect moments outside, we moved it on inside to change her outfit and take a few more. These are my favorite. I just love creamy neutrals.

She's just absolutely stunning. After quick snack, I started setting up for her cake smash! Her smash was a ladybug theme and it was probably my most challenging to imagine when I was designing her backdrop. I didn't want to take away from her, knowing she'd be all decked out in her ladybug tutu. So, I found a little inspiration in a box I have that has sunflowers and ladybugs. This was the outcome...

As always, Amanda at Cakes by Amanda in Barre, MA did a fantastic job on the smash cake.

Now, this little sweetie has a sweet tooth or two. She loved her cake. She didn't exactly destroy it...but she did enjoy it! <3

She was perfect! I could have photographed her all day long. <3 Such a cutie

Happy Birthday, Ladybug! <3
